Barbara Joan Streisand was born on April 24, 1942, in Williamsburg,
Brooklyn, New York. As a high school student she sang in the choir
and graduated near the top of her class.

A nightclub singer in her late teens, Streisand appeared in a
number of off-Broadway productions and performed in Manhattan’s
Greenwich Village after shortening her name to Barbra Streisand.

In 1962 Columbia Records signed Barbra resulting in her very first album,
“The Barbra Streisand Album” winning two Grammy Awards. She would
record more than 60 albums, each of them becoming best sellers.
“The Broadway Album” in 1985 turned Platinum and was “Album of the Year”
earning Barbra a “Best Female Vocalist” Grammy, one of ten she
would collect during her career.

In the spring of 1964, “People” would become her first gold single.
With five chart topping #1 hits, “The Way We Were” in 1973, “Evergreen”
in 1976 and “Woman in Love” in 1980, Barbra would solo. In 1978 she
teamed up with Neil Diamond for “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”,
in 1979 with Donna Summer for “No More Tears”. Additional million
selling singles would be, “Stoney End” in 1970, “My Heart Belongs to Me”
in 1977, “The Main Event” in 1979,“Guilty” in 1980 and “What Kind of Fool”
with Bee Gee Barry Gibb in 1981.

In 1968, Barbra Streisand collected an “Academy Award for Best Actress”
for her first film, “Funny Girl”. Her second Academy Award was for the song
“Evergreen” from “A Star is Born” in 1976. “Hello Dolly” in 1968 and
“On a Clear Day You Can See Forever”, along with “The Owl and the Pussycat”,
both in 1970, added to her stardom as an actress. In 1972 Barbra co-starred
with Ryan O’Neal in “What’s up Doc”. They teamed up again in 1974 with
“For Pete’s Sake”. Robert Redford was Barbra’s co-star in the drama,
“The Way We Were” in 1973. As director, writer, and the star, Barbra film’s
produced “Yentl” in 1983 and “The Prince of Tides” in 1991.

In 2004, with co-stars Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro, Streisand
made a return to the screen in the comedy, “Meet the Fockers”.

Along with earning gold and platinum records, Grammys, Oscars, Emmys,
Golden Globe awards, the American Film Institutes Lifetime Achievement
Award, a Tony and a Peabody, Barbra Streisand continues to perform at sold
out concerts and is considered the highest paid concert performer in history.

Barbra lives in southern California with her husband, actor James Brolin.
