“Dirt poor” is how she describes an early life living in a dilapidated
one room cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.
Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1941 to become one
of America’s best loved singer/songwriter, actress entertainers.
As a pre-teen she was singing on radio and TV in Knoxville and
at 13 appearing on the Grand Ole Opry.

Credited with selling more than 100 million records, beginning
with the first country hits in the mid 1960’s, her “Joshua” would
top the country charts in 1970 and after a dozen more #1 country
songs, ten years later her biggest hit “9 to5” topped both the
country and pop charts for 26 consecutive weeks.
Along with hit singles “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,”
“Here You Come Again,” “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle To You,”
“But You Know I Love You” and “Islands In the Stream”

Dolly Parton has dozens of multi million selling albums and
awarded numerous Grammy awards. One of only five female
stars named as “Entertainer of the Year” by the Country Music
Association, Dolly was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of
Fame in 1984, inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1986
and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
