KC & the Sunshine Band

Harry Wayne "K.C." Casey was born on January 31, 1951 in
Opa-Locka, Florida. As a teenager he played keyboard and sang with
local bands and worked part time in a local record store. While making
deliveries he began doing odd jobs at TK Records in Hialeah, Florida.
In time it would introduce him to TK’s house bass player,
Richard Finch. Spending their spare time in the studio, in 1974 Casey
and Finch would write and produce “Rock Your Baby” for George
McCrae. Picked immediately by local Miami radio station, Y-100,
it spread across the nation to become a #1 hit.

This success encouraged Casey and Finch to form KC and the
Sunshine Band with guitarist Jerome Smith, drummer Robert Johnson,
Fermin Goytisolo on congas. Their happy good time danceable
music with repetitive, catchy lyrics soon exploded on the radio with
“Get Down Tonight” and “That’s The Way I Like It” both leaping
to the top of the Hit Parade in 1975. “Shake Your Booty” topped the
charts in 1976, with “I’m Your Boogie Man” and “Keep It Comin” Love”
doing the same in 1977. In 1979 “Please Don’t Go” earned another
gold record and teaming with Teri DeSario, KC added another
million seller in 1980 with “Yes, I’m Ready.”
