Born in Philadelphia on May 25, 1922, as a pre-teen Kitty Kallen
had her own radio program on WCAU and as a teenager was already
a featured vocalist with Artie Shaw’s orchestra and moved on to the
Jimmy Dorsey band replacing famed singing star Helen O’Connell.

While with the Harry James orchestra in the mid 1940’s Kitty’s
voice made “I’m Beginning To See The Light” and “It’s Been A Long,
Long Time”#1 hits and her into an international singing star.

With more than a dozen hits to her credit, the subscribers of
Billboard and Variety voted Kitty Kallen the most popular
female singer of 1954 as her multi-million selling singles,
“Little Things Mean a Lot” and “In the Chapel in the Moonlight”
topped the charts. As recently as 1962, “My Coloring Book”
had Kitty Kallen back on the Hit Parade.

For her contributions as a recording star, Kitty Kallen
was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
