Percy Faith

Percy Faith

Born on October 7, 1908 in Toronto, Canada, Percy Faith
became a citizen of the United States in 1945 and provided
arrangements for many of the pop singers of the 1950s, including
Tony Bennett, Doris Day, Johnny Mathis and Guy Mitchell, for
whom it wrote the Hit Parade topper, “My Heart Cries For You.”

In 1952 his #1 best seller “Delicado,” a popular song from
South America, introduced him as an international recording
star, a year later he repeated with “Song From Moulin Rouge” known
also as “Where Is Your Heart” and the international giant hit,
“Theme for A Summer Place” that was also Grammy
Award Record Of the Year in 1961.

During his career, Percy Faith recorded more than eighty best
selling albums with “Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet”
earning him a second Grammy award in 1969. He also wrote
several film scores, including the 1955 Oscar-nominated
Doris Day classic, “Love Me Or Leave Me,”
“Tammy, Tell Me True” and “The Oscar.”

On February 9, 1976, cancer claimed the life of
Percy Faith at Encino, California.
