
Peter, Paul & Mary
Peter Yarrow was born on May 31, 1938, Noel Paul Stookey
was born on December 30, 1937 and Mary Travers
was born on November 9, 1936. In the early 60’s they
formed the super folk group
of the decade.
Their first album in 1962, “Peter, Paul & Mary” was
on
the best seller charts for three full years and gave them
their first hit single, “Lemon Tree”
along with the top ten single “If I Had a Hammer”.
A year later “Puff The Magic Dragon” peaked
at #2, as did
“Blowin’ In The Wind”.
“Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” also
landed in the top ten of the Hit Parade.
In 1967 “I Dig Rock And Roll Music” gave
them another
top ten hit and in 1969 “Leaving On A Jet Plane” returned
Peter, Paul & Mary to the top of the singles chart with a song
written
by John Denver. “Day is Done” also was a chart hit
in the same year.
Peter, Paul and Mary was inducted into the Vocal
Group Hall of Fame in 1999 and in 2006 a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
