
The Osmonds with Donny and Marie
Donny, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Jimmy and
Marie Osmond were all discovered by singing star Andy Williams and
while featured on his top rated weekly TV show in the 60’s they also
performed in concert with Andy.
In 1971 “One Bad Apple” topped the Hit Parade, followed by “Yo-Yo”,
“Down by the lazy river” and “Love Me for a Reason”. As a solo
artist with a dozen hits, Donny Osmond, born on December 9, 1957
added his own million sellers, “Sweet & Innocent”, “Go Away Little
Girl”, “Hey Girl”, “Puppy Love, “ “The Twelfth of Never” and “Soldier
of Love”.
In 1973, the lone sister in the family, Marie Osmond contributed
“Paper Roses” when it reached the top of both the Pop and Country
Hit Parade. As a duo in 1974, Donny & Marie teamed up to
add gold records for “I’m Leaving It all up to you” and “Morning
Side of the Mountain”. Their “Donny & Marie” tv show ran nationally
for three years starting in 1976. Donny & Marie continue to perform
in Las Vegas at the Flamingo hotel. Jimmy, the youngest of the Osmond
clan remains the youngest performer to have a #1 hit in England with
“Long Haired Lover from Liverpool” in 1972.
Recently, both Marie and Donny Osmond were contestants in the “Dancing
with the Stars” tv show.
