Willie Hugh Nelson was born at Abbott, Texas on April 30, 1933.
As a pre-teen he was writing songs and playing in a band leading
to his working as a disc jockey while attending high school.
Living in Nashville in the early 1960’s his talent as a songwriter
gained attention when hits “Funny How Times Slips Away,”
“Night Life,” “Hello Walls,” “Pretty Paper” and “Crazy” gave
Patsy Cline, Faron Young, Roy Orbison and others big hits
and Willie an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry.
Moving back to Texas his popularity as a singer soared with
the release of the album, “Red Headed Stranger” and Willie’s first
#1 hit, “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” Collaborating with Waylon
Jennings in the 1970’s brought the platinum selling album
“Waylon and Willie” with “Mammas Don't Let Your Babies
Grow Up to Be Cowboys” and “Good Hearted Woman.”
Hit Parade toppers, “If You’ve Got the Money I’ve Got the Time,”
“Georgia On My Mind,” “Blue Skies,” “On the Road Again,
“Always on My Mind,” “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before,”
“City of New Orleans” and “Seven Spanish Angels” are among the
more than 100 chart hits for Willie Nelson.
With numerous Grammy awards including a Lifetime
Achievement Award in 1999, Entertainer of the Year in1979
and several American Music Awards, Willie continues
to record, tour and perform to sold out audiences.
