The Shirelles

The Shirelles, Shirley Owens Alston Reeves, Doris Coley
Kenner Jackson, Addie "Micki" Harris McPherson, and
Beverly Lee from Passaic, New Jersey, began their career in
the late 1950’s after being discovered by Florence
Greenberg, who after taking over the role as manager,
and signing the girls to her label, Scepter records.

In 1960 “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” reached the top of
the Hit Parade as did “Soldier Boy” in 1962. Among their
more than two dozen hits, The Shirelles had three million sellers
in 1961 with “Dedicated to the One I Love,”
“Mama Said.” and “Baby It’s You.”
“Foolish Little Girl,” would follow in 1963.

At 58 years of age, cancer claimed the life of Doris Jackson in 2000.

The Shirelles were inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame in 1996.
