Tommy Roe
Thomas David Roe was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 9, 1942
and
after beginning to perform and write songs as a
teenager, teamed
up producer Felton Jarvis and manager
Bill Lowrey, one of Atlanta’s
top disc jockeys who had
ventured into talent management and music
publishing.
As Buddy Holly influenced Bobby Vee in Fargo, he did the
same for
Tommy Roe in Atlanta.
In 1962 “Sheila” leaped to #1 on the Hit Parade, “Dizzy”
would do
the same in 1969. Additional gold record awards
for Tommy Roe in
1963 with rocker “Everybody” and
“Sweet Pea,” in 1966, “Hooray for
Hazel” would follow that
same year. Among his two dozen hits during
the 60’s was
also another million seller, “Jam Up, Jelly Tight” in
1969.
Now a resident of Beverly Hills, California with his wife,
actress
Josette Banzet, in 1986, Tommy Roe was inducted
into the Georgia
Music Hall of Fame.
