
Billy Preston
Raised in Los Angeles, William Everett "Billy" Preston
was born on
September 2, 1946 in Houston, Texas .
Before his teenage years, Billy was already performing in the bands
of
gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, James Cleveland and Andrea Crouch.
As a young man was collaborating with many of the top names in
the music industry, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Eric
Burdon,
Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, George Harrison, Elton John, Aretha Franklin,
Neil Diamond and others.
In 1972 Billy Preston’s Outa-Space earned him a Grammy as Best
Pop
Instrumential , the first of five million selling singles. It would
be followed
on the Hit Parade with “Will It Go Round In Circles”, “Space Race,”
“Nothing from Nothing” and “With You I’m Born Again”.
Battling kidney disease in his final years, Billy Preston died
at 59 years
of age on June 6, 2006 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is interred at
Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California.
