Earth, Wind & Fire

Born December 19, 1941, in Memphis, TN., Maurice White, a session drummer for Chicago’s Chess Records traveled to Los Angeles where he created Earth, Wind and Fire in 1969. Known for their tight, punchy horn section, the group’s tight, punchy horn section became a signature for the band.

Their first album in 1975, “That’s the Way of the World” yielded “Shining Star,” a Grammy Award-winning #1 hit on both the pop and R&B Hit Parade. Earth, Wind & Fire continued with an unbroken run of multiplatinum albums: Gratitude in 1975), Spirit in 197), All ‘n All in 1977, The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 in 1978 and I Am in i979.

Successfully breaking all musical genre boundaries through 23 albums, EWF has recorded 8 No. 1 R&B singles and 8 double-platinum, Top-10 pop albums over its career. They have earned more than 50 gold and platinum albums and have sold over 90 million albums worldwide, earning them a place on the list of best selling music artists.

“Sing  A Song”, “Getaway”, “Serpentine Fire”,  “Got To Get You Into My Life”, “September”,  “Boogie Wonderland”,  “After the Love Has Gone” and “Let’s Groove” are among the many hit singles of Earth, Wind and Fire.

In 2000 Earth Wind Fire were inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2000) and in 1995 received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame  and Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. in 2003, the group received the Vocal Group Hall of Fame Award .The music industry and EWF’s fans bestowed Lifetime Achievement honors from ASCAP, NAACP, and the BET Awards. The American Music Awards awarded the group with four distinguished trophies .

Earth, Wind & Fire has received 20 Grammy nominations, winning 6 awards as a group; individually, its founding members, have won two each, totaling eight Grammys.
